I Thought I Knew What My Life Would Look Like

I was the girl who always looked like she had it figured out; and the funny thing is, I really did.

I knew what I wanted.

A loving husband, beautiful children, a safe and happy home, a successful career and generally, a life that felt whole.

I believed there would be a moment when I would finally arrive – when everything would come together and I could look around and say: “This is the life I dreamed of.”

But life had other plans.

Instead of the straightforward road I imagined, I got the scenic route.

And the scenic route broke me open.

I had to confront fears I didn’t know I carried.

I needed failure to understand what success actually meant to me.

I had to grieve things I thought my life would hold.

And somewhere along the way, I discovered I had ADHD (a bit too late) and then I realised that I had been fighting battles I didn’t even know I was fighting for a long time.

For a while, I had stopped dreaming because there is a particular kind of exhaustion that comes from wanting something deeply and feeling like the more you try, the further away it gets.

Somewhere in the middle of all of it, I stopped asking: “When will I get there?”

I started asking deeper questions.

Why does life feel so empty?

Why do I keep getting hurt?

When do I get to live and actually enjoy my life?

Who do I need to be?

What truly is the secret to happiness?

And those questions changed everything.

Maybe The Problem Wasn’t That I Hadn’t Arrived.

Maybe I had spent too much of my life believing that happiness was somewhere ahead of me.

When I got married.

When I had children.

When my career took off.

When I had enough money.

When I became the woman I thought I was supposed to be.

But what if life wasn’t waiting for me there?

What if life was happening right here?

What if I could laugh while some things were still unresolved?

Dream while I was still figuring things out?

Enjoy an ordinary Monday without having all the answers?

Love my life while still wanting some things to change?

Be grateful and disappointed at the same time?

Be healing and still live?

Because healing isn’t something we finish before life begins.

Healing is part of life.

And perhaps the most important thing I learned was that I didn’t need to become someone else to build a life I loved.

I needed to come home to myself.

Welcome to Healing Her.

Healing Her: I Am Finally at Home in Myself is a reflective story about losing yourself while chasing the things you so deeply desire — and slowly finding your way back.

It is about what happens when you spend years trying to build the life you thought would make you happy, only to get some of it and realise:

This isn’t quite what I thought it would feel like.

It is about the slow realisation that sometimes, in our pursuit of the life we want, we abandon the woman who is supposed to live it.

And then comes the work of returning.

Learning to love yourself through the struggle.

Forgiving yourself for the things you knew nothing about.

Grieving the parts of you that had to change.

Learning to love without abandoning yourself.

Learning that achievement is not the same as fulfilment.

Learning that being needed is not the same as being loved.

Learning to stop measuring your life against someone else’s timeline.

And, eventually, daring to dream again.

Not from desperation.

From desire.

From knowing yourself.

From asking:

What do I actually want?

Not what looks good.

Not what everyone else is doing.

Not what you were told a successful woman should want.

But what is deeply, honestly, unmistakably yours.

A Life That Fits You.

Maybe becoming yourself isn’t about becoming a better version of the woman everyone expects you to be.

Maybe it is about becoming the woman you are supposed to be.

The aligned one.

The one who knows herself.

The one who can love deeply without losing herself.

The one who can want more without believing that what she has is not enough.

The one who can hold grief and gratitude at the same time.

The one who can dream without abandoning the life she has today.

The one who no longer needs to arrive somewhere else to feel at home.

The one who finally realises that home was never a destination.

It was always within her.

This isn’t about having life figured out.

It is for the woman figuring it out.
